2008 HRA Sprint Car Rules
CHASSIS
1. All sprint car frames must be a sprint car design. Both torsion bar & coil over are allowed.
2. No aluminum frames, no aluminum kick bars and no aluminum bumpers.
3. Solid steel bolts and nuts only.
4. Roll cages must be a minimum of 1.375 inch diameter .095 thickness, seamless tubing.
5. All race cars must have a front bumper, rear bumper and kick bars on both sides of the race car, steel only.
6. All race cars must have a racing fuel cell with bladder.
DRIVE-TRAIN
7. All cars must have a minimum of 3 wheel brakes. (Inboard & front brake).
8. In & out box, sliders & shifter rear ends only. No transmissions or clutches.
9. The drive-line must be fully enclosed by a torque tube; torque tube must have a 3/8 inch inspection hole. A drive-shaft loop or a drive-shaft strap is mandatory.
ENGINE
10. The engine must appear strictly stock. Cast iron blocks and heads only. Flat top pistons only.
11. Flat tappet cam and lifters only.
12. Maximum 360 ci. on Chevrolets & 370 ci. on Fords & Chryslers. (2% allowance when tubing for ci.)
13. 2 3/16 maximum injector stacks or 4 barrel alcy carb.
14. Steel or aluminum pulley allowed. No dry sump oiling systems.
15. Any steel cylinder head with a 23 degree valve angle.
16. Engines not meeting the above specifications will be required to run a 1 5/8 restrictor and a 50 compound or harder right rear tire (Hoosier DT3 or harder) and a 40 compound or harder left rear.
PROTEST RULES
17. The top four finishers can be subject to an engine protest. Any driver finishing on the same lap as the fourth place car is eligible to protest. The protesting driver must pull into the work area and make his intentions known to an HRA OFFICIAL with $100 cash. The $100 will be contributed to the HRA. The inspection will consist of a visual inspection to verify flat top pistons and flat tappet camshafts and should be accomplished by removal of one spark plug and one valve cover. Removal of one rocker arm and push rod may also be necessary. Refusal to submit to this inspection will result in loss of points and that nights money and a $300 fine to be paid prior to the next event.
FUEL
18. Methanol or Ethanol (E98) will be permitted. NO GASOLINE!!!
19. No performance additives.
SUSPENSION
20. No adjustable from the cockpit shocks.
21. Coil-over suspension will be allowed.
TIRES
22. Any rear tires are allowed for engines meeting the HRA rule.
23. Any front tires allowed.
24. Minimum 84-inch wheelbase.
WHEELS
25. No plastic wheels allowed.
26. No carbon fiber wheels allowed.
27. Beadlocks are highly recommended.
WINGS
28. No wings, unusual side panels or air foils allowed.
SAFETY
29. Competition shoulder harness and lap belt must be a minimum of 3 inches wide. Submarine belt and arm restraints are mandatory. Metal to metal buckles are required on shoulder harness and lap belts. All belts are REQUIRED not to be over 2 years old.
30. Fire retardant racing suit is mandatory.
31. Fire retardant racing gloves are mandatory.
32. Fire retardant shoes, socks, underwear and hood are highly recommended.
33. Neck brace is required.
34. Roll cage net is mandatory.
35. Helmets-SNELL SA95 or SA00 required. Helmets must be worn at all times when driver is operating race car.
36. No transmitting or listening devices are allowed in the race car.
37. No electronic monitoring computer devices capable of storing or transmitting information, except tach, allowed on the race car.
NOTE
38. Any rules not covered here or any rules in question will be left up to the officials in charge. Their decision will be FINAL.
